It was exciting working on a project that was going to bring back a Historic San Luis Obispo Landmark. The building had been altered significantly on the ground floor in the 1950's and had fallen into disrepair over the decades. The new master lease hold had the vision to bring the building back to the original character. With the original drawings in hand and with photographic research we were able to develop the details and character that was the Wineman Hotel. Through the design process it was decided to expand the sidewalk to increase pedestrian comfort and to promote sidewalk dining. Along with the extensive rehabilitation work on the exterior, the old historic hotel on the second and third floors was rehabilitated and updated, through a generous grant from the City of San Luis Obispo, into market rate and affordable studio apartments to meet the worker housing needs of the City. The project has the distinction of being awarded the 2010 Honor Award by the AIACCC and being at the major intersection in Downtown San Luis Obispo, the rehabilitation project has brought a renewed sense of vitality to the Downtown.
